What is computer science?

Computer science deals with methods and systems for the processing, transmission, communication and storage of information.

Information processing ranges from the worldwide Internet to individual system control and regulation in cars, household appliances or cell phones, and thus computer science methods are used in practically all areas. Computer science deals with fundamental aspects of this diversity and provides general methods to successfully handle this spectrum of applications. Such methods concern, for example, the design and programming of software and computer hardware systems.
