Computer Science at TU Dortmund University

Welcome to Dortmund, a city that combines tradition and modernity and is known as the gateway to the Ruhr region.

In the western part of the city lies the campus of the TU Dortmund University, populated by more than 32,000 students. They are supported by around 6,800 scientists and technical and other staff to prepare them for their professional careers.

As early as 1972, TU Dortmund University was one of the first universities in Germany at which the subject of computer science could be studied. Today, the Department of Computer Science is one of the largest in Germany and offers a wide range of departments and their applications.

This versatile environment allows students to flexibly choose their major from an extensive selection of sub-fields of computer science and their applications. The study of computer science at TU Dortmund University has enjoyed an excellent reputation in the business world for many years, which has a positive effect on later career entry.

The graduates of the Department of Computer Science have left a lasting impact on the Dortmund region. This is particularly evident when walking through the neighboring Technology Park, where numerous companies have been founded by former students. They are helping to successfully shape the transformation from the old to the new Dortmund. The department maintains contact with its alumni through an alumni association.

A new chapter began with the start of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Applied Computer Science in the winter semester 2007/2008. Proven concepts of the previous diploma programs were adopted and combined with the requirements of the Bachelor/Master system. Particular attention was paid to strengthening the practice-oriented components in the Bachelor's programs in order to provide students with a solid professional foundation.
